Shady Cats is a bright arcade platformer game where you have to collect nuts and avoid dangerous shadows that repeat what you did before. You have to be careful about where you run and jump because every path you take can bring you a new danger. Special collectibles add new challenges. For example, fish give you more acorns but also attract bees, and fireflies briefly get rid of shadows that are chasing you.
It's possible to play by yourself or with up to three friends at a time, making for crazy sessions where each cat has to avoid its own shadow. The game also has five themed areas, cats that can be unlocked, medals that can be collected, and power-up cards that give you different benefits. In Crazy Mode, there is an endless single-player challenge where shadows from previous moves keep threatening your life. Get as many acorns as you can, avoid your shadow, and keep your cat moving to get the best score!
Get acorns while running away from your shadow.
In Shady Cats, you have to get across platforms and collect acorns without hitting the shadow that follows your path. Every time you move, your shadow can follow the same path, which makes well-known paths more dangerous. If you go back through an area you just crossed, your pursuing double may be right in front of you. If you touch a shadow, your run ends, so picking safe paths and timing your jumps are very important if you want to stay alive. In Crazy Mode for one person, the challenge keeps going through endless levels where shadows of your past moves follow you around.
To stay alive, you must collect special items and use power-ups.
There are a lot of interactive parts that change how you play each level. Fish help you collect more acorns and multiply your scores, but they also bring in bees, which are more dangerous. Fireflies provide short-term relief by getting rid of shadows, which lets you get out of dangerous situations or get to more collectibles. You can choose power-up cards like Shield, Vanish, and Magnet to get different benefits after you finish a level. Each run has an extra level of strategy because you have to decide when to go after valuable catches and when to put safety first.
You can play the game with up to four other people locally by sharing a keyboard and controlling a different cat. In the same environment, everyone has to stay away from their own shadow. Friends can work together to stay alive or fight to get higher scores. The Backyard, Living Room, Rooftops, Kitchen, and Fishing Pier are the five places where you can go on adventures. To move forward, you must also collect 22 cats, win 48 medals, and compete on five leaderboards with flags of different countries. A free gift of 50 to 100 coins can be given for viewing a short video.
